Connect RouteFlex to Claude
Connect RouteFlex to Claude and you can ask about your drivers, trucks, applicants and schedules in plain English, then have Claude make the changes for you. It works as you, with exactly your own RouteFlex permissions and no more, and everything it does is recorded in an activity log. Setup takes about five minutes, and you can disconnect at any time.
What Claude can do for you
Once connected, Claude can look things up in RouteFlex and make changes as you. Ask the way you would ask a coworker:
Anyone. "Using RouteFlex, which trucks are out of service?" "Who has run route 411 the most?" "How many drivers called out last week?"
Recruiters. Find an applicant and move them to a new stage, or add a note to their record.
Schedulers. Read next week's schedule for a terminal.
Claude can only do what you can already do in RouteFlex. If you cannot open a page or change something yourself, Claude cannot either, and it will tell you the request was refused. That is expected.
Choose your connection address
You connect with a web address, and the address decides which tools Claude is shown. The full set is about 138 tools, which takes up a lot of room in every chat (roughly 50K tokens), so a narrower address is lighter. Pick the one that fits your job:
https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?access=readshows only tools that change nothing. Best for a first try.https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcpshows everything you are allowed to do in RouteFlex.https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?products=sourceis recruiting.https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?products=pulseis people and scheduling.https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?products=source,pulseis for a recruiter who also schedules (about 77 tools).https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?products=ready&access=readis the shop, lookups only.
The products part accepts pulse, source, pay and ready, separated by commas, and you can add &access=read to any of them.
Pick how you use Claude
There are two ways to run Claude, and the connection steps differ:
The Claude app. Claude Desktop, or claude.ai in a web browser. You click through screens and type nothing but the address.
Claude Code. A command-line tool you run in a terminal window, for people who already use it.
Most people want the Claude app. You only need one of the two sections below, so follow the one that matches how you use Claude and skip the other.
Connect with the Claude app (Desktop or claude.ai)
Use this section if you open Claude as an app or in a web browser. If you use Claude Code in a terminal, skip to the next section.
Open the connector settings
In Claude, open Settings and find Connectors. It usually sits under Customize, so the path is Settings › Customize › Connectors, though the menu can differ a little on some plans. Choose to add a custom connector.
Name it and paste the address
Name it RouteFlex and paste the address you picked in "Choose your connection address", for example
https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?access=read.Click Connect
Claude takes you to RouteFlex to sign in. If nothing opens, see Troubleshooting.
Sign in to RouteFlex
Use your normal RouteFlex login. RouteFlex needs a sign-in from the last 15 minutes, so if you signed in earlier you are asked again, even though you are already logged in.
Check the screen, then allow
Read the screen, which is explained in "What you will see when you sign in, either way". Then click Allow to let Claude make changes, or Allow read-only for lookups only.
Turn it on in a chat
Start a new chat and make sure the RouteFlex connector is switched on for it.
You are done when the connector settings in Claude list RouteFlex with the address you pasted and its tools, such as Find an applicant, Find a truck and Check the Do Not Apply list. With the read-only address that is about 57 tools, all lookups. Claude lets you set each group of tools to always allow, needs approval, or blocked. Leave anything that changes data on needs approval.
Connect with Claude Code (in a terminal)
Use this section only if you already run Claude Code in a terminal. If you use the Claude app or claude.ai, skip it.
Add RouteFlex
In a terminal, run this command. Keep the quotes around the address. To use a different address, swap it in from "Choose your connection address".
claude mcp add --transport http routeflex "https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcp?access=read"Open the server list
Start Claude Code, run
/mcpand pick routeflex.Choose Authenticate
Your browser opens RouteFlex. Sign in with your normal RouteFlex login (RouteFlex needs a sign-in from the last 15 minutes), then click Allow or Allow read-only. The screen is explained in "What you will see when you sign in, either way".
You are done when /mcp shows routeflex as connected.
What you will see when you sign in, either way
Whichever way you connect, RouteFlex shows the same screen after you sign in and asks whether to let Claude in. The screen shows:
The question "Connect Claude to RouteFlex?"
Your email address, so you can see which account is signing in.
The companies Claude will be able to reach.
Where you will be sent back to. From the Claude app or claude.ai that reads
claude.ai.
Below that are three buttons: Allow (lookups and changes), Allow read-only (lookups only), and Cancel.
Try it
Start with questions that only look things up. Begin with "Using RouteFlex" so Claude knows where to look, and if you have more than one company, name it:
"Using RouteFlex, which trucks are out of service?"
"Using RouteFlex, who has run route 411 the most?"
"Using RouteFlex, how many drivers called out last week?"
If you chose Allow rather than Allow read-only, you can ask Claude to do things too:
"Find this applicant and move them to the Interview stage, then add a note that they asked to be called after 5."
"Show me next week's schedule for my main terminal."
Staying safe
Your permissions apply. Claude has the same access you have in RouteFlex and no more. Some requests will be refused, and that is the system working.
Claude asks before it acts on other people. Before anything that sends, approves or deletes, such as texting or emailing applicants, publishing a schedule or releasing Daily Board texts, Claude tells you what it is about to do and to whom, then waits for you to agree. Those messages go to real people, so read the confirmation and keep these confirmations on.
Applicant and driver messages are information, not orders. Anyone can write anything in an email or text, including lines meant to steer an AI. Claude is told to treat what applicants and drivers write as information only. That helps a lot, but it is not a guarantee, which is one more reason to read each confirmation.
Everything is recorded. Everything Claude does through the connection goes into an activity log.
Disconnect
Open the menu at the bottom of the RouteFlex sidebar, choose Security, and find Connected apps. Click Disconnect next to Claude and its next request is refused. Changing your password disconnects every connected app at once. A connection also expires after 90 days, and you approve it again.
Troubleshooting
Nothing opens after you click Connect. Claude cannot reach RouteFlex. Check the address: it should start with
https://app.routeflex.ai/api/mcpwith no spaces or extra characters. The RouteFlex page shows an error. Read the message on the page, it says what went wrong. If it does not make sense, contact support and include a screenshot.
Claude does not use RouteFlex. Make sure the connector is switched on in the chat, and start your question with "Using RouteFlex".
Claude says a request was refused. You do not have access to that part of RouteFlex. Ask an admin to change your permissions if you need it.
You want to stop. Follow the steps in "Disconnect" above to remove it.
